How to stop UPI subscription AutoPay on an SBI account
An SBI account is usually somebody's salary or savings account, so a silent ₹399 debit stings more. The good part is that stopping a UPI subscription AutoPay on an SBI account has not one but three working routes, and you can pick whichever suits you.

Route 1: SBI YONO or BHIM SBI Pay
- Open SBI YONO or BHIM SBI Pay.
- Go to the UPI Mandate section.
- Open Approved / Active mandates.
- Select the mandate — check merchant name, amount, next debit date and the e-mandate reference number.
- Tap Revoke and confirm.
- Keep the confirmation message as proof.
Route 2: SBI net banking
- Log in at onlinesbi.sbi with your net banking credentials.
- Go to e-Services.
- Open Manage Standing Instructions / e-Mandate.
- Select the mandate you want to stop and cancel it.
This route is handy when the mobile app is not loading the mandate list or you want a desktop record of what you cancelled.
Route 3: Your branch, or any other UPI app
At the branch, submit a written mandate-cancellation request carrying your account number and the mandate reference number.
But before you travel: a mandate can be cancelled from any UPI app linked to that SBI account. Try PhonePe (profile icon → Manage AutoPay), Google Pay (profile picture → Autopay), Paytm (profile icon → UPI Automatic Payments → Manage) or BHIM (Mandate → My Mandates). It does not matter which app created the mandate.
If money was already debited wrongly, report the transaction in the UPI app (Help → Report an issue), go to the bank if it is unresolved in three days, and escalate to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in if it is still open after 30 days. A refund is possible where the debit was unauthorised or the mandate had already been revoked.
One important note
If the mandate is a loan EMI, do not revoke it without arranging another way to pay — a missed EMI does damage your CIBIL score. For every other kind of mandate, cancelling has zero effect on your credit score.
FAQ
Does revoking cancel my subscription with the merchant? No. It stops the debit only; cancel with the merchant separately.
Why did a big amount go out without my PIN? Above ₹15,000 the AFA rule requires your PIN, except for insurance, mutual fund SIPs and credit card bills, which go up to ₹1,00,000.
Conclusion
Three routes, and the app one takes barely a minute. Revoke the mandate, save the confirmation, and then close the account with the merchant.
