How to Stop a Zerodha SIP AutoPay (UPI Mandate)

The debit lands on the same date every month, and this month you would rather it did not. Before you start, know this: to stop a Zerodha SIP AutoPay you do not have to give up a single unit you already own.

Step 1: Stop the SIP in Coin first

Zerodha's mutual fund SIPs are managed in Coin — coin.zerodha.com, or the Coin section of the Kite app. Go to SIPs, open the SIP, and choose Cancel or Pause. Labels shift between app versions, so look for the SIP's own detail page.

Do this before you touch the mandate. If you stop only the money and leave the SIP registered, the platform keeps trying to collect, each debit fails, and each failure is recorded as a missed instalment with notices to match. Some platforms cancel a SIP after a few consecutive failures, but do not rely on that.

Place the request well before the next SIP date — AMC-side processing is commonly quoted at around 15–21 working days, though app platforms are usually much faster. If this is only a temporary crunch, check Pause first; most platforms allow a pause of a few months.

Step 2: Then revoke the UPI mandate

Once the SIP shows as cancelled, open any UPI app linked to that bank account — not only the one that created the mandate — go to AutoPay / Mandates and revoke the entry.

One Zerodha-specific catch: its SIPs commonly run on a bank e-mandate / NACH rather than UPI AutoPay. So check Console → Account for bank authorisations, and your net banking → e-mandate / standing instructions. NACH is a separate rail and never appears in a UPI app.

Step 3: What happens to the money already invested

Nothing. Stopping a SIP stops only future instalments; every unit you own stays in your folio and keeps moving with the market. Stopping is not redeeming — money reaches your bank only through a separate redemption request, and exit load and capital gains tax apply to redemption, not to stopping a SIP.

One important note

A single mandate can cover several SIPs, so revoking it may quietly stop all of them — check what is linked first. This is information, not financial advice; speak to your advisor before a big decision.

Short FAQ

Will my units be sold? No — nothing is redeemed unless you request it.

Can I restart later? Yes, with a fresh SIP and a new mandate.

Cancel in Coin, wait for confirmation, then revoke the mandate. What you have already invested stays exactly where it is.
