How to Stop an Upstox Mutual Fund SIP AutoPay via UPI

A SIP you started in a comfortable month is now landing in a tight one. You want the debit to stop without disturbing what you have already built. To stop an Upstox mutual fund SIP AutoPay via UPI, two separate things must happen — and the order matters.

Step 1: Stop the SIP in the Upstox app

Go to Mutual Funds → SIPs, select the SIP and cancel it. Labels vary between versions, so if the option is not on the list, open the SIP's detail page.

Look for Pause on the same screen. Most platforms allow a few months' pause, and for a temporary shortage that is usually the gentler choice.

Do not leave it to the last day. Place the request several days before the next SIP date; AMC-side processing is commonly quoted at around 15–21 working days, though app platforms are much quicker.

Why first? A mandate revoked while the SIP is still registered means a monthly collection attempt that fails and is recorded as a failed instalment, with failure notices. Some platforms cancel the SIP after a few consecutive failures, but do not depend on that.

Step 2: Revoke the UPI AutoPay mandate

Once cancellation is confirmed, open any UPI app linked to that bank account — it need not be the app that created the mandate — find AutoPay / Mandates and revoke the entry. Unsure which mandate is which? Match the merchant name and e-mandate reference in your last post-transaction notification.

Check net banking → e-mandate / standing instructions too — many SIP mandates run on NACH, a separate rail that never appears in a UPI app.

Step 3: What happens to your invested money

Nothing is sold. Stopping the SIP ends only future instalments; your units stay in the folio and keep moving with the market. Taking money out needs a separate redemption request, and exit load and capital gains tax attach to redemption, not to stopping a SIP.

One important note

A single mandate can fund several SIPs, so revoking it can quietly stop all of them — check what is attached first. Mandates also run to their end date and do not expire early on their own. This is information, not financial advice; check with your advisor before a big decision.

Short FAQ

Will stopping the SIP take my money out? No — that needs a separate redemption request.

Can I revoke from a different UPI app? Yes, any app linked to the same bank account.

Cancel in Upstox, wait for confirmation, then clear the mandate. Your existing investment is not touched at any point.
