How to Stop an ET Money SIP AutoPay

Something has changed — a fund you no longer want, a tight month, or a SIP you set and forgot. Either way, stopping an ET Money SIP AutoPay is a two-part job, and the part most people get wrong is the sequence.

Step 1: Stop the SIP inside ET Money

Go to Investments → SIPs, select the SIP and choose to stop it. Wording differs between versions, so if it is not on the list, open the SIP's detail screen.

Look for pause while you are there. Most platforms allow a few months' pause, and if this is a temporary shortage rather than a change of mind, pausing keeps the SIP intact.

Act early. Place the request several days before the next SIP date; around 15–21 working days is commonly quoted for AMC-side processing, though app platforms are much faster.

Step 2: Then revoke the mandate

After the stop request is confirmed, revoke the payment permission. Open any UPI app linked to that bank account — not just the one that created the mandate — go to AutoPay / Mandates and revoke the entry. Unsure which is which? Match the merchant name and e-mandate reference from your last post-transaction notification.

If it is not listed in any UPI app, the mandate is likely NACH, a separate rail UPI apps never show. Check net banking → e-mandate / standing instructions.

Why this order? Revoke first and the SIP stays registered — the platform keeps trying to collect, each attempt fails, and every failure is a missed instalment. Some platforms cancel a SIP after a few consecutive failures, but that is not a plan.

Step 3: What happens to your invested money

It stays invested, in full. Stopping a SIP ends only future instalments; nothing already bought is sold, and your units keep moving with the market. Withdrawal is a separate redemption request, and exit load and capital gains tax attach to redemption.

One important note

One mandate can be funding several SIPs, so revoking it can silently stop all of them — check what is linked first. Mandates also run to their end date rather than expiring on their own. This is information, not financial advice; talk to your advisor before a big decision.

Short FAQ

Does stopping the SIP cost anything? No — exit load applies when you redeem, not when you stop.

Can I start it again later? Yes, with a fresh SIP and a new mandate.

Stop the SIP in ET Money, wait for confirmation, then clear the mandate. Then the only thing that changes is that no new instalment goes out.
