How to Remove Amazon Prime Subscription Auto-Debit from UPI

Prime renewed for another full term and you found out only when the SMS arrived. Ending the membership and removing the Amazon Prime subscription auto-debit from UPI are two different actions, and doing just one is why the charge keeps coming back. Here is both, in order.

Step 1 (merchant side): end your Prime membership

  1. Open amazon.in and sign in.
  2. Go to Account & Lists.
  3. Open Prime Membership.
  4. Tap Manage Membership.
  5. Choose End Membership and follow the prompts to confirm.

Amazon will show you which benefits stop and on what date. Note that date down — it is what you will quote if you need to argue about a later charge.

Step 2 (mandate side): revoke the UPI AutoPay mandate

  • PhonePe: profile icon (top-left) → Manage AutoPay → Amazon → Cancel AutoPay
  • Google Pay: profile picture (top-right) → Autopay → Amazon → Cancel autopay
  • Paytm: profile icon → UPI Automatic Payments → Manage → Amazon → Cancel
  • BHIM: Mandate → My Mandates → Revoke

Mandates live at the bank, not in the app, so any UPI app linked to that bank account can revoke it — even one you never used with Amazon.

Why you need both steps

Revoking only the mandate stops the money but leaves the membership on Amazon's books, which can mean an unpaid balance or a sudden loss of delivery benefits. Cancelling only the membership can leave a live mandate that a future Prime plan reuses. Amazon first, then the UPI app.

One important note

Cancelling a mandate does not itself trigger a refund for a charge already taken. That is a separate request to Amazon, and mandates run to their end date rather than expiring early.

Short FAQ

Do I keep Prime till the end of the paid term? Amazon shows your benefit end date when you cancel — go by that.

Will cancelling affect my CIBIL score? No. A subscription mandate is not credit and is not reported to bureaus.

End the membership on amazon.in, then revoke the mandate in your UPI app. Check the AutoPay list a week later and the auto-debit is properly gone.
