How to Cancel Any Mutual Fund SIP UPI AutoPay — The General Process

Different apps, different menus — but the process to cancel a mutual fund SIP UPI AutoPay is the same everywhere. Two things exist: the SIP, registered with the platform or AMC, and the mandate, the permission to pull money from your bank. Both must end, in the right order.

Step 1: Stop the SIP where you created it

Go back to where you started it — Groww, Zerodha Coin, Upstox, Angel One, Paytm Money, ET Money, or the AMC's own website. The path is almost always the same: the investments or mutual funds section → SIPs → the SIP → cancel or pause. If you invested directly with the AMC, use Transact / My SIPs, or submit its SIP cancellation form through the RTA — CAMS or KFintech.

Ask for pause before cancelling: most platforms allow a few months' pause, which fits a temporary cash crunch better than ending the SIP. Place the request well ahead of the next SIP date — around 15–21 working days is commonly quoted for AMC-side processing, though app platforms are faster.

Step 2: Then revoke the UPI AutoPay mandate

Once cancellation is confirmed, open any UPI app linked to that bank account — not only the one that created it — go to AutoPay / Mandates and revoke it. Check net banking → e-mandate / standing instructions too, since many SIP mandates are NACH, a separate rail that never appears in UPI apps.

Revoke first and leave the SIP registered, and every month brings a failed collection recorded as a missed instalment. Some platforms cancel after a few consecutive failures — do not rely on it.

Step 3: What happens to your invested money

Nothing. Cancelling stops only future instalments; your units stay in the folio and keep moving with the market. Taking money out means a separate redemption request; only redemption attracts exit load and capital gains tax.

One important note

One mandate can fund several SIPs, so revoking it may stop all of them — check what is attached first. Mutual fund SIPs are an exception category with a ₹1,00,000 limit instead of the usual ₹15,000 additional-factor threshold, so a big instalment can go out without a PIN prompt. This is information, not financial advice — speak to your advisor before a big decision.

Short FAQ

Does cancelling a SIP sell my units? No — stopping and redeeming are different.

Can I cancel one SIP and keep the others? Yes, but be careful with a shared mandate.

Stop the SIP, confirm it, then clear the mandate. In that order your invested money is never in play.
