How to Cancel a UPI Subscription Mandate on HDFC Bank

You set up an AutoPay on your HDFC account a year ago, and the debit still turns up every month for something you no longer use. To cancel a UPI subscription mandate on HDFC Bank you have three routes — and one of them has nothing to do with UPI at all.

Route 1: any UPI app linked to your HDFC account (fastest)

  1. Open PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm or BHIM with your HDFC account linked.
  2. Open the mandate section — PhonePe: profile icon (top-left) → Manage AutoPay. Google Pay: profile picture (top-right) → Autopay. Paytm: profile icon → UPI Automatic Payments → Manage. BHIM: Mandate → My Mandates.
  3. Pick the mandate and revoke it.

Mandates live at the bank, not inside the app, so any app linked to that HDFC account can show and cancel one created somewhere else.

Route 2: HDFC's own apps

Open PayZapp or the HDFC Bank MobileBanking app → UPI → mandates → revoke. HDFC also publishes its own help page on cancelling a UPI AutoPay mandate, and you can call PhoneBanking if a mandate refuses to go.

Route 3: NetBanking, for older NACH/ECS instructions

HDFC NetBanking is where you handle NACH/ECS standing instructions — a different rail from UPI mandates. Insurance premiums, SIPs and many loan EMIs still sit there and will never show up in a UPI app. Check both places before assuming you are clean.

One important note

Cancelling the mandate stops the debit, not the service, so cancel with the merchant too. And if the mandate is a loan EMI, arrange another way to pay before the due date: a missed EMI hurts your credit score, the cancellation does not.

Short FAQ

Can I cancel a mandate created in another app? Yes, from any UPI app linked to that HDFC account.

Will the debit stop immediately? Revoke a few days early — a debit already in flight may still go through.

For an HDFC UPI mandate the quickest fix is any UPI app linked to that account, with PayZapp and MobileBanking as backups. Then check NetBanking for old NACH instructions and tell the merchant.
