How to Cancel a Groww SIP Auto-Debit
You open Groww, see next month's SIP date, and decide this instalment should not go out. What stops most people is the fear that cancelling will undo the investment. It will not — but the order in which you cancel a Groww SIP auto-debit matters a great deal.

Step 1: Cancel or pause the SIP inside Groww
In the app, go to Investments / SIPs, open the SIP and choose Cancel SIP. Labels change between versions, so look for the SIP's own detail screen.
Before you cancel, look at Pause SIP. Most platforms allow a pause of a few months, and for a short cash crunch that is usually the better option — the SIP survives and only the debits stop.
Either way, do it several days before the next SIP date. AMC-side processing is commonly quoted at around 15–21 working days; app platforms are much faster, but a last-minute request may not catch the next instalment.
Step 2: Then revoke the auto-debit mandate
Groww mandates are usually listed under Profile → payment methods / mandates. You can also revoke a UPI AutoPay mandate from any UPI app linked to that bank account, not only the one that set it up.
Check one more place: many SIP auto-debits are NACH e-mandates, not UPI AutoPay, and those never appear in a UPI app. Look under net banking → e-mandate / standing instructions.
One reason a forgotten SIP runs unnoticed — the usual additional-factor threshold is ₹15,000 per transaction, but mutual fund SIPs are an exception category with a ₹1,00,000 limit, so even a large SIP can be debited without a UPI PIN prompt.
Step 3: What happens to the money already invested
It stays invested. Cancelling stops only future instalments; nothing already bought is sold. Stopping is not redeeming — money reaches your bank through a separate redemption request, and it is redemption that attracts exit load and capital gains tax.
One important note
One mandate can be linked to several SIPs, so revoking it may silently stop all of them. And if you revoke the mandate but forget to cancel the SIP, failed instalments and failure notices keep piling up. This is information, not financial advice; talk to your advisor before a big decision.
Short FAQ
Does cancelling affect my returns so far? No. Existing units keep moving with the market.
Pause or cancel? Pause for a short break; cancel if you are done with the fund.
Cancel the SIP first, confirm it, then remove the mandate. With a few days to spare, nothing about your existing investment changes.
