How to remove unwanted subscription AutoPay from Google Pay
A ₹249 debit shows up every month and you cannot even place the merchant name. If it was set up through GPay, removing an unwanted subscription AutoPay from Google Pay takes four taps — the screen is just buried behind your profile picture.

The exact path in Google Pay
- Open the Google Pay app.
- Tap your profile picture at the top-right.
- Tap Autopay. A list of your active mandates loads.
- Tap the mandate you want to remove.
- Tap Cancel autopay or Turn off.
- Confirm, and keep the confirmation message safe.
If more than one bank account is linked, switch accounts and repeat — mandates belong to the account, not the app.
What each mandate tells you
Before cancelling, read the merchant name, the amount, the frequency, the next debit date and the e-mandate reference number. That reference number is the most useful thing on the screen if you ever raise a dispute.
Variable-amount mandates also display the maximum ceiling per debit you approved, and the merchant cannot cross it. Any single debit above ₹15,000 must pause for your UPI PIN under the AFA rule; insurance premiums, mutual fund SIPs and credit card bill payments are the exceptions, running up to ₹1,00,000 without AFA.
If the debit already happened and looks wrong
- Open the post-transaction SMS — it carries the merchant name, amount, date and time, transaction reference number, e-mandate reference number, reason for the debit and your bank's grievance details.
- Report the transaction inside the UPI app: Help → Report an issue on that transaction.
- If it is unresolved after three days, take it to your bank, which must resolve within a set turnaround.
- If it is still open after 30 days, escalate to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.
A refund is possible where the debit was unauthorised or the mandate had already been revoked.
One important note
Turning off AutoPay in Google Pay stops the money moving but does not close your account with the merchant — cancel there too. None of this touches your CIBIL score, unless the mandate is a loan EMI, where a missed EMI does hurt.
FAQ
The mandate was created in another app. Will GPay show it? Yes. Any UPI app linked to that bank account can list and cancel it.
Will it stop on its own if I ignore it? No. Mandates keep running till their end date.
Conclusion
The Autopay screen in Google Pay is the fastest audit of your monthly outgo. Open it, cancel what you do not want, and tell the merchant too.
