Step 1: Cancel the SIP in the Angel One app
Go to Mutual Funds, open the SIP book — often shown as My SIPs — select the SIP and cancel it. If the label differs in your version, open the SIP's detail screen.
Check whether a pause is offered before cancelling outright. Most platforms allow a pause of a few months, which suits a temporary money problem far better than ending the SIP.
Timing matters. Place the request several days before the next SIP date — AMC-side processing is commonly quoted at around 15–21 working days, even though app platforms usually act much faster.
Step 2: Then revoke the mandate
Only after the SIP is confirmed cancelled should you remove the mandate. Open any UPI app linked to that bank account, go to AutoPay / Mandates and revoke the entry.
If it is not there, the mandate is probably NACH, not UPI AutoPay — a separate rail that never shows in a UPI app. Look under net banking → e-mandate / standing instructions.
The order matters. Revoke first and the SIP stays registered: it attempts collection every month, fails, and each failure is recorded as a missed instalment. Some platforms cancel after a few consecutive failures, but do not count on it.
Step 3: What happens to the money you have invested
It stays invested. Cancelling a SIP stops only future instalments — nothing is redeemed, nothing is sold, and your units keep moving with the market. To withdraw, you place a separate redemption request, and only that attracts exit load and capital gains tax.
One important note
One mandate can support more than one SIP, so revoking it may silently stop every SIP linked to it. Note too that mutual fund SIPs are an exception category with a ₹1,00,000 limit rather than the usual ₹15,000 additional-factor threshold, so a large instalment can go out without a PIN prompt. This is information, not financial advice — talk to your advisor before a big decision.
Short FAQ
Is there a charge for cancelling a SIP? No — exit load applies to redemption, not cancellation.
How soon does the debit stop? Once cancellation is confirmed and the mandate revoked.
Cancel in Angel One, get the confirmation, then remove the mandate. Your existing units are never part of the transaction.
